Developing and Delivering Industry-Relevant Education and Research
|
|
The applied nature of tourism and hospitality education presents a number of challenges to both educators and the industry, and this is why the theme of "Developing and delivering industry-relevant education and research" has been chosen. The theme of the conference will focus on how to collectively strengthen and deepen the relationships that exist between education institutions and the industry. The conference will seek the balance of academic papers together with presentations from practitioners in the tourism and hospitality industry to develop industry-relevant education and research outcomes.
The aim of this joint conference is to blend the traditional formats of the 6th Asia-Pacific (APacCHRIE) Conference and THE-ICE International Panel of Experts Forum 2008.
Educators, researchers and practitioners in tourism and hospitality are invited to attend the 6th Asia-Pacific (APacCHRIE) Conference and THE-ICE International Panel of Experts Forum 2008 that will take place from May 21st 24th, 2008 in Perth, Western Australia. This joint convention will include invited keynote panel speakers, informative refereed presentations, and symposium/roundtable discussions which will focus on the latest in educational research. Extensive networking opportunities will be provided through the international education exchange. The joint convention presents an exciting opportunity to combine industry-relevant education and research and is open to members and non-members of I-CHRIE or THE-ICE.

International CHRIE was founded in 1946 as an academic non-profit organisation for vocational colleges and universities offering programs of study in tourism and hospitality. With almost 1,400 members world-wide located in 57 countries, I-CHRIE is a tremendous source of interaction, information and influence for everyone committed to tourism and hospitality education. APacCHRIE is a Chapter of I-CHRIE, and this will be the first time a CHRIE conference has ever been hosted in Australia. Information about I-CHRIE can be found at http://www.chrie.org and more specific information about the APacCHRIE Chapter can be found out http://www.apacchrie.org. Past APacCHRIE conferences have offered the opportunity to submit refereed and working papers, and attend Keynote speaker presentations.
The International Centre of Excellence in Tourism & Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) was established in 2004 as an initiative of the Australian government. The role of the THE-ICE is to recognise and develop excellence in tourism and hospitality education. There are currently 15-member institutions in THE-ICE representing vocational colleges, private hotel schools and universities. More information about THE-ICE can be found at http://www.the-ice.org. THE-ICE has hosted both the 2005 and 2006 International Panel of Expert Forums. Both Forum’s have been highly focused on a specific theme, and have only featured invited expert speakers.
