Perth’s geographical position makes it an ideal international conference venue. Close to Asian ports and the Eastern States of Australia, its proximity to Europe makes it especially appealing, and with a choice of routes, via Asia, Eastern Australia or New Zealand, it is an attractive alternative for American visitors. Direct connections between major Asian ports, and Eastern States capitals, make pre and post-touring options simple.
Australia’s special attractions, from the magnifi cence of Sydney’s Harbour and Opera House, to the arresting Parliament House in the national capital, the cultural heart of the country in Melbourne to the unforgettable Great Barrier Reef, are but a fl ight away. So, too, is South Australia, the country’s premier wine-producing State, and the unique Australian Outback, dominated by Ayers Rock, the world’s biggest monolith and home of the Aboriginal Dreamtime. The Northern Territory is true Crocodile Dundee country, while the rugged beauty of Tasmania offers World Heritage Listed country, and the cradle of Australian history.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Public Transport in Perth is modern, very accessible and in many cases complimentary. A modern electric train system connects the city to most suburban areas. The trains then connect with a network of buses to service the public transport demand. This train naturally also allows all delegates staying in the central CBD to be transferred or connect to train services that run to areas such as Fremantle, our beaches or the Swan Valley.
The train system is simple to negotiate and very safe. Buses and ferries run alongside the train system to ensure the city and suburbs are covered. Within the city there is a complimentary bus service. Any bus operating within the city centre is free to all passengers travelling within the city. There is also a scheduled, complimentary service called the ‘CAT’ buses, which operate for extended hours through the city, West Perth and the entertainment district of Northbridge. This service is ideal for travellers who wish to follow a set route of attractions. The CAT buses also cater for passengers with disabilities.
Traffic Conditions
Perth is blessed with a modern road network incorporating major highways and wellplanned feeder roads. Two bridges connecting southern suburbs to the city have just been completed to double their capacity. A tunnel diverting traffic around the city was completed in April 2000 and ensures heavy haulage vehicles do not enter the city precinct. These modifications ensure good traffic flow well into the future. It is rare to experience traffic delays in Perth.
Taxi Fares
Taxis are regularly available from the Domestic airport and throughout the city of Perth. Over three independent taxi companies operate in Perth, offering safe, efficient and cost effective commuting for all delegates. The average taxi fare from the Domestic airport some 20 minutes drive from the CBD is approximately A$30.
